.s. regulators ordering a review of boeing 787 dream liner after a series of incidents which put a question mark over the safety of boeing's flagship plane. the shares this week have taken a hit. down another 2% in today's trading session because two more problems with 787s on domestic japanese flights today. there was an oil leak and the other a cracked windshield. phil lebeau is tracking information from washington. >> the ntsb said, this is af plane, feel confident if you are playing it. at the same time, the faa launched a special review looking at reliability and safety of the 787 dreamliner. it'll be run by the faa. but boeing will be assisting in that review and so will some of the suppliers, no doubt, as they look at electronics and use of lithium ion batteries on the dreamliner. remember a lithium ion battery was traced to be the source of the fire of the 787 that caught on fire while parked at a gate in boston on monday. in 2007 the faa made special rules for the use of lithium ion batteries on airplanes because of flammability can concerns. with all of that said, listen to what the he
to get to it on boeing. phil, over to you. >> we've heard from the ntsb, expecting an update from them. they have at least an initial report regarding the fire investigation of that 77 dreamliner in boston yesterday. the ntsb saying that they have decided they are going to send two more investigators to look at the dreamliner in question and that at least initially taking a look at the fire in question they found severe fire damage to the battery of the auxiliary power unit. remember, the auxiliary power unit is what is used to provide power to an airplane when it is parked on the tarmac, not while it's in flight so the battery unit, severe fire kagge there, and it's pretty clear, scott and maria, that we are going to see more airlines, if they haven't already, they are going to start checking their wiring on the battery unit. i just spoke with the folks out of ana in japan. they have a number of dreamliners, checked theirs overnight at the urging of the ministry of transportation in j.i just talked with united airlines. it has checked the battery power wiring on all of its dreamliners

. first is aerospace. by now, we've all seen the stories about boeing's troubled dream liner, nothing like genuine footage of smoking planes to get your attention. but did you know globally there are 8,900 orders for new planes? did you know that airline companies are the most solvent they've ever been and desperately need more planes than they're ordering now? do you know there's financing galore to make that happen? that's new too. did you know airplane demand from business and regional jets are increasing by 12% and 22% respectively year-over-year or air travel could go up 4% this year. did you know that? as we learned in the aerospace line of claus kleinfeld's speech, or his conference call last night at alcoa. how do we invest in this theme? the most obvious idea is boeing, which has passed airbus in orders and is the premiere manufacturer in this country if not the world. i'm afraid he has footage of a troubled dream liner. we saw billions in market capitalization taken away these last couple of days because of a couple of defects in a small number of planes. and this is a big but, t

lebeau's got breaking news ton the 787 boeing dream liner. phil, if you're out there, tell me what you've got, my friend. >> larry, we have learned that the faa is going to be conducting a special review of the power system in the 787 dream liner. essentially this is the faa saying let's take a pause here and take a look at the design, the manufacturing, how the power system works on the dream liner. let me be clear here, this is a special review. this is not an airworthiness directive. it would be a much more serious matter. and it might involve airlines being told stand down, don't fly this plane. that is not what is happening. airlines that have the dream liner will continue to flow it. but the faa is saying this is not simply looking into what happened on monday in boston, we want to do a special review of the power system remember, at the heart of this is the issue of the way the dream liner derives so much of the onboard electricity. this uses much more electricity than any other plane. as a result, it's much more complex than your typical airplane. again, the faa is going to be
